Tulsa Women’s Tennis Blanks Montana on Saturday, 7-0

BOZEMAN, Mont. – The University of Tulsa women's tennis squad (8-5) shut out the Montana Grizzlies (1-9), 7-0, in a neutral-site match in the Treasure State on Saturday morning.
The Golden Hurricane handled all three doubles matches with relative ease, picking up 6-2 wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 spots. Tulsa's freshmen tandem of Megan Hopton and Marina Davtyan also notched a 7-5 victory to sweep the doubles point for TU.
Tulsa would continue its momentum into singles play, taking five of the six singles matches in straight sets. Senior Martha Matoula won at the top spot over Montana's Lauren Dunlap, 6-0, 6-2 to improve to 3-0 at the No. 1 position this season.
At the No. 2 spot, Vera Ploner racked up a 6-1, 6-2 victory over the Grizzlies' Bianca Bostrom. With the win, Ploner is now 10-5 in solo play this season. Shortly thereafter, Hopton added a 6-3, 6-3 win in her third match at the fourth spot this season.
Davtyan and Manon Meulenberg would win at 5 and 6, nearly shutting out their opponents 6-0, 6-0 and 6-1, 6-0, respectively.
Tulsa's only match to go the distance came at the hands of Shura Poppe in the No. 3 position. Poppe faced off with the Grizzlies' Nathalie Joanlanne, as Poppe edged out Joanlanne 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-6) to blank Montana.
Head coach Dean Orford's bunch continues its road trip in Montana tomorrow morning, set to play its second true road match of the season, squaring off with Montana State at 10 a.m. CT in Bozeman.
