WACO, Texas – The Tulsa Golden Hurricane men's tennis squad (9-6) fell to the Texas A&M Aggies (6-3), 5-2, on Tuesday night in a weather-delayed neutral site match.
The doubles point played out to be a back-and-forth battle, as both teams split the first two doubles matches. Texas A&M picked up a 6-3 win at No. 1, but was quickly answered by Kody Pearson and Daniel Siddall's 6-4 win at No. 3.
In what came down to a tiebreak, the Aggies' Valentin Vacherot and Austin Abbrat edged Tulsa's Joshua Goodger and Tom Thelwall-Jones, 7-6(4), to secure the doubles point. Despite losing the point, the Pearson/Siddall tandem improved to 9-4 to pace TU in the dual season.
Texas A&M pushed the lead to three with No. 2 and No. 3 singles wins, as Goodger and Jarod Hing each fell in straight sets. To secure the match, the Aggies' Barnaby Smith nabbed a 6-3, 6-3 win over Pearson in just Pearson's fourth loss this season.
In the remaining singles matches, Siddall dropped his match to Guido Marson in a back-and-forth affair, 7-5, 6-2. Kilani picked up Tulsa's first win of the match, a three-set victory over the Aggies' No. 1 Carlos Aguilar, 2-6, 7-5, 1-0 (10-7).
To follow and close the match, freshman Germany native Stefan Hampe notched a 6-4, 5-7, 1-0 (10-6) win for head coach Vince Westbrook's bunch.
The Golden Hurricane returns to Oklahoma for two more matches this weekend, traveling to Norman on Friday for a matchup with No. 24 Oklahoma before a home match with No. 34 South Carolina on Sunday.
