NORMAN, Okla.
– The University of Tulsa women's tennis team (10-6) dropped a 4-3 nail-biter to the No. 34 Oklahoma Sooners (9-3) on Friday at the Headington Family Tennis Center.

Tulsa managed a strong start in doubles play, going up a break in all three matches to kick off doubles. No. 14 Martina Okalova and Vera Ploner nabbed their eighth win of the season at the No. 1 position, topping OU's Jasmine Asghar and Ivana Corley, 6-4.

Tulsa's freshmen duo of Marina Davtyan and Megan Hopton clinched the opening point for TU, taking down the undefeated Sooner tandem of Oleksandra Korashvili and Kianah Motosono, 6-3.

Tulsa continued its momentum into singles, nabbing four of six first sets over the ranked Sooners. Despite the hot start in solo play, the Sooners managed to tie the match up at 1-all with a win at the No. 5 position, as Hopton fell to Motosono, 6-3, 6-1.

Oklahoma took the match lead with a win at the No. 4 position, but was quickly answered by Martha Matoula's straight-set victory, 6-4, 6-3, over the Sooners' Martina Capurro. The win marked Matoula's team-leading 11th of the dual season.

The back-and-forth narrative continued into the latter half of singles, as TU pulled ahead 3-2 with Ploner's 10th victory of the season, defeating OU's Jasmine Asghar, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3. Davtyan battled into a third frame, but Oklahoma tied the match at 3-all at the No. 6 position.

In what came down to the top singles spot, No. 76 Okalova found herself locked in a tight affair with No. 40 Korashvili. The Slovakia native dropped the three-set battle to the Sooner, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2, as Oklahoma secured the match.

Head coach Dean Orford's bunch will get its chance to rebound on Sunday, as Bradley travels to Tulsa for an 11 a.m. match inside the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
