ORLANDO,
Fla. – The Tulsa men's tennis team (14-11) heads to Orlando in search of its first American Athletic Conference title on Friday, as it opens the tournament in the quarterfinal round against Wichita State (15-9) at 11 a.m. CT at the USTA National Campus.

The No. 4-seeded Golden Hurricane received a bye into the quarterfinals after its regular-season performance, as the team has now earned a first round bye in all five years since joining the AAC in 2014.

The Shockers enter the week with a 15-9 overall mark and a 2-1 record against conference foes this season, playing Memphis three times in 2019. Wichita State heads into the week riding a five-match winning streak, dating to March 24.

In the teams' meeting a season ago, the Shockers claimed a narrow 4-3 victory in Tulsa on Feb. 19, 2018. WSU leads the all-time series with the Golden Hurricane by a slim margin, 21-16.

For Tulsa, head coach Vince Westbrook's bunch tallies a 14-11 record in the dual season. Under Westbrook, the team has reached the championship match of the AAC tournament twice in four years since joining the conference.

The Golden Hurricane is led by senior No. 63 Majed Kilani. Kilani has notched four wins over ranked opponents in the dual season, boasting a 11-8 mark at the No. 1 position. Freshman Kody Pearson paces TU in singles victories, earning a 16-7 record in solo play this season.

In doubles, junior Jarod Hing and sophomore Boriss Kamdem rank 78th nationally in doubles tandems, and the duo owns a 7-4 record at the No. 1 doubles flight for Tulsa.

Results from all four days of the American Athletic Conference tournament can be kept up with at the conference championship central page here.
