Tulsa Wins Third Straight with Road Victory at Tulane 67-54

NEW ORLEANS, La.
 –– The Hurricane took control in the second half shooting 59% on 16-27 from the field, to take down Tulane with a final of 67-54 in Fogelman Arena. Tulsa wins their third consecutive game moving to 4-1 in the American Athletic Conference, the Hurricane's best start since beginning conference play 5-1 in 2016-17.
 
With 12:51 left in the game, Tulsa used a 10-2 run to extend to 51-40, the Hurricane's first double-digit lead of the game. The Hurricane held the Green Wave to three baskets the final 6:59 of the game forcing Tulane into 35% shooting in the second half.
 
Martins Igbanu led the way for Tulsa tying his season-high with 19 points and adding 6 rebounds. He tied his career-high in made free-throws knocking down 11 of his 12 attempts.  
 
Brandon Rachal scored 16 points, putting in 12 points in the second half going 7-14 from the field. He added 7 rebounds and added 3 assists. Jeriah Horne also put in 16 points going 50% (7-14) from the field while grabbing 5 rebounds.
 
With the win, Tulsa improved to 12-6 overall and 4-1 grabbing first in the American Athletic Conference. Tulane fell to 10-8 and lost its second consecutive home conference game giving them a 2-4 AAC record.
 
Darien Jackson came off the bench and scored 8 points, brought in 5 rebounds and added 4 assists. For the 4th time this season Elijah Joiner led the Hurricane in rebounds with 7, and for the 9th time he led in assists with 4.
 
In all 12 of the Hurricane wins, Tulsa has held its opponents under 40-percent shooting. Tulane went 21-55 on the night from the floor and 6-25 from the three-point line. The Hurricane out-rebounded the Green Wave 39-27 and outscored Tulane in the paint 34-24.
 
"Our guys really performed well. Tulane is one of the best three-point shooting teams in the league, and they shot only 24-percent from three and 38-percent from the floor. We will take those numbers on the road anytime," said Tulsa Head Coach Frank Haith.
 
At the start of the game, Tulane jumped out to a 8-0 lead as the Hurricane did not score for the first 5:11 of the game. The Hurricane responded by going on a 7-1 run of their own sparked by a three from Isaiah Hill to cut the Green Wave lead to 11-9.
 
The Hurricane bench shined, scoring 30 of Tulsa's 67 points. Igbanu and Jackson led the bench attack combining for 27 points.  
 
"In the first half we were so amped up that we did not look fluid offensively, but our defense kept us right where we need to be," Coach Frank Haith on Tulsa's first half, "In the second half we got things going. Martins had one of his best games this season with 19 and 6."
 
The Green Waves were led by K.J. Lawson who scored 15 points on 6-16 shooting while bringing in 6 rebounds. Teshaun Hightower added in 14 points while Christion Thompson rounded out Tulane's double-digit scorers with 10.
 
Igabanu led the Hurricane with 8 first-half points, while Gardner also had 7 points for East Carolina.


The Hurricane returns to the Reynolds Center to host the Memphis Tigers on Wednesday, Jan. 22, in an 8:00 p.m. contest.
