Santalla Earns Three-Set Win in Singles, as Tulsa Falls at #3 Texas

AUSTIN, Texas – Ezequiel Santalla captured his ninth singles win of the season on Sunday, as the Tulsa men's tennis team fell at third-ranked Texas, 6-1, at the Texas Tennis Center. The Golden Hurricane stand at 10-7 overall, while the Longhorns improve to 12-3 in 2020.
Santalla took down Chih Chi Huang at No. 5 singles for the lone TU point of the day in three sets, 3-6, 6-4, 6-1. Juan Pablo Cenoz also played to three sets in the No. 6 slot, where he ultimately fell to Evin McDonald, 4-6, 6-1, 6-4. Stefan Hampe put on a strong showing against sixth-ranked Christian Sigsgaard in the No. 2 position, as the Hurricane pushed the Longhorn to a first-set tiebreak. The redshirt sophomore would end up falling in straight sets, 7-6(5), 6-3.
Jarod Hing fell 6-3, 6-3 to Eliot Spizzirri at No. 3 singles. In the top spot, No. 61 Kody Pearson bounced back in his second set vs. second-ranked Yuya Ito, but also dropped a straight-sets match, 6-2, 6-4. Connor Di Marco suffered a loss to No. 44 Siem Woldeab at No. 4 singles, 6-4, 7-5.
In doubles, Tulsa claimed a win in the top spot, as No. 61-ranked Di Marco and Pearson defeated Spizzirri and Jacob Bullard, 6-2. Cenoz and Hampe would fall in the No. 2 spot to No. 32-ranked Sigsgaard and Woldeab, 6-1. Daniel Siddall and Santalla lost to Ito and Huang at No. 3 doubles, 6-3.
Tulsa returns to Michael D. Case Tennis Center on Wednesday to take on No. 32 Oklahoma (10-4). Match time is set for 6 p.m.
