Monfort Advances To Singles Round Of 32 At ITA Regional Championships

STILLWATER, Okla. — Senior Laia Conde Monfort of The University of Tulsa women's tennis team advanced Friday to the Singles Round of 32 during the ITA Women's Central Regional Championships in Stillwater.

The senior from Castello, Spain took down Missouri's Christine Canete 6-3, 6-2 in the Round of 64 after taking a first-round bye. She will take on Vasiliki Karvouni (Minnesota) Saturday at 10:45 a.m. in the Round of 32.

Four Tulsa athletes found success early on in the opening round of singles action as Myroslava Zelenchuk, Oleksandra Nahurska, Maria Berlanga Bandera and Lian Benedejcic won their matches over players from Southern Illinois, Central Arkansas, Nebraska-Omaha and Missouri.

Outside of main draw action, all four of Tulsa's doubles teams came away with decisive victories in the Doubles Consolation Round of 32. All teams will continue on in the consolation bracket on Saturday starting at 9:30 a.m.
