
Tulsa Hosts Mayor’s Cup in Donald W. Reynolds Center

TULSA, Okla. –– The University of Tulsa men's basketball team welcomes crosstown rivals ORU for the 59th edition of the Mayor's Cup on Wednesday evening in the Donald W. Reynolds Center.
Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. and will air on ESPN+ with Josh Haley and former star Tulsa point guard Pooh Williamson on the call. Fans can also catch the contest on Big Country 99.5 FM and the Varsity Network app. Bruce Howard and JR Rollo will call the action.
The Hurricane leads the all-time series 36-22, but the visiting Golden Eagles have won the past three matchups. Tulsa seeks its first win in the series since November of 2019. ORU will attempt to win four straight in the series for just the second time.
Tulsa is off to a 2-0 start following its 103-80 victory over Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Saturday. It was the second time under head coach Eric Konkol the Golden Hurricane eclipsed 100 points. Ten Hurricane scored and four reached double figures, led by 22 from Isaiah Barnes, his first 20-point performance. He leads the team, averaging 18 points through the first two games. Keaston Willis scored a consistent 17 in each of the first two games.
Grad transfer guard Dwon Odom is coming off the bench to average 13.0 points as a Hurricane. He's shooting 73.3 percent from the floor through two games. Justin Amadi, another TU transfer, made his debut on Saturday and five points and grabbing three rebounds in 13 minutes. He and Odom teamed up for a pair of alley-oops each way. Odom also showed off his athleticism with a pair of dunks that wowed the crowd.
Barnes, Willis, Odom and Tyshawn Archie (12.5) all average double figures in scoring after the opening week. A transfer from Minnesota, Braeden Carrington leads the team in rebounding, pulling down 7.5 boards per game, while scoring at a 9.5 average. Willis and freshman Ian Smikle share second place with 5.5 rebounds a night.
The visiting Golden Eagles enter the Mayor's Cup 1-1 on the young season. Oral Roberts also broke the century mark in its latest game, taking down Ozark Christian 105-49 in their home opener. ORU opened the season with an 80-57 loss at Minnesota.
Summit League Preseason Player of the Year Issac McBride leads the team in averaging 12.5 points while knocking down 3-pointers at a 50 percent clip (4-of-8). Senior forward Sam Alajiki, who scored a team-high 16 points in Friday's win, is second on the team, averaging 11.5 points. He also cleans the glass to the tune of eight rebounds a game and has six more than any teammate.
