JACKSONVILLE, Fla. –– Georgia State forward Zarique Nutter knocked down a fadeaway jumper from the top of the key as he was fouled to lift Georgia State to a 74-71 win over the Golden Hurricane in Tulsa's final game of the Jacksonville Classic on Wednesday afternoon.

It was the Panthers' (4-3) first made field goal in more than four minutes and negated a comeback attempt from the Hurricane (4-4), who split its pair of games in the classic.

Facing his old team, graduate transfer guard Dwon Odom collected a double-double with 16 points, and 11 rebounds. He added seven assists, and his lone turnover came at the end of the game when attempting a long pass to set up a game-tying shot. Keaston Willis led the TU scorers with 18 points, aided by five 3-pointers. Tyshawn Archie scored 12, Braeden Carrington added 11 with five rebounds and Isaiah Barnes dropped in 10 with five boards to round out Tulsa's double-digit scorers.

The Panthers were paced by 22 from Nutter, leading four in double figures. Cesare Edwards had an 18 and 16 double-double, while Nick McMullen recorded a 13 and 10 double-double.

Field goal percentages were pretty even, with Georgia State holding a slight 43.5 percent to 42.2 percent advantage. Tulsa knocked down 11 3-pointers at a 35.5 percent rate compared to Georgia State's three triples at 18.8 percent. The difference was at the charity stripe, where the Panthers shot 17-of-23 while Tulsa made six on just 11 attempts.

Willis tied the game with 10 seconds remaining after getting fouled on a 3-point attempt. He made all three to level the score at 71. Then Nutter came down and hit the big shot with the foul. He completed the traditional 3-point play and Tulsa's attempt at a full court pass was deflected, effectively ending the contest.

The Hurricane played from behind for the majority of Wednesday's game, leading for just 1:22 of the action. However, TU stayed within striking distance, falling behind by 12 in the first half, but never any further.

HOW IT HAPPENED
IN THE FIRST HALF . . .
Tulsa's only lead of the half came in the opening minutes when Isaiah Barnes drained a 3-pointer off a Dwon Odom assist to put the Hurricane ahead 5-3 less than two minutes into the game.

The Panthers went on an 11-0 run over the ensuing 3:45 to take a 14-5 advantage. Tulsa got the deficit down to four before Georgia State rattled off eight straight to take a 24-12 advantage with 10 minutes to play in the first.

Tulsa made a push in the final 4:37 of the first half to trim the lead from 11 to one entering the half. The Hurricane outscored Georgia State 15-5 in the time frame with three points from Keaston Willis, four from Dwon Odom and Tyshawn Archie, a bucket from Carrington and a last second layup from Justin Amadi off an Odom feed.

Archie knocked down a pair of free throws to tie the game at 32 with less than a minute in the half, but Georgia State hit a 3-pointer before Amadi's score.

Tulsa shot 40 percent from the floor and 25 percent on 3-pointers in the opening half. The Panthers were a similar 40.6 on field goals while shooting 1-of-8 (12.5 percent) on shots from 3-point range. Archie had 10 in the first half to pace the Hurricane.

IN THE SECOND HALF . . .
It was another slow start in the second half for Tulsa. The Hurricane tied it twice in the early going before an 11-2 run from the Panthers gave GSU a 50-41 lead at the 14:38 mark.

Willis and Barnes engineered a 9-0 run of their own to quickly retie the game 52-52 with 12:01 to play. Barnes knocked down a triple and then Willis was good from long range on back-to-back possessions.

After a Georgia State basket, Barnes hit Tulsa's fourth 3-pointer in as many shots to give Tulsa its first lead since the early minutes, 55-54 with 10:28 left in the contest.

The Panthers retook the lead with a 3-pointer of their own. After Tulsa tied it, Georgia State jumped ahead by four and eventually pushed the lead to 71-64 with 3:50 to play. That was Georgia State's final basket until the last shot of the game.

Tulsa battled back to tie the game with three free throws from Willis with 10 seconds on the clock. The Panthers then hit the game-winning shot on a jumper plus a foul to jump ahead 74-71 with two seconds left.

The Hurricane shot 44.8 percent from the floor in the second half and hit on 7-of-15 3-pointers (46.7 percent). The Panthers shot 46.7 percent and connected on two 3-pointers in eight attempts (25 percent). Willis scored 12 of his points in the second half while Odom added 10.
