NEW ORLEANS, La. –– The University of Tulsa men's basketball team opens February with a game against the Tulane Green Wave on Sunday afternoon in the Avron B. Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse.
Tipoff is set for 1 p.m. and will air on ESPNU with Jack Benjamin and Perry Clark on the call. Fans can also catch the contest on Big Country 99.5 FM and the Varsity Network app. Bruce Howard will bring fans the action alongside analyst JR Rollo.
Sunday's matchup is the 37th meeting between the Golden Hurricane (9-12, 3-5 The American) and the Green Wave (11-10, 5-3 The American), in a series Tulsa leads 25-11. TU is 15-3 at home against Tulane, but the series is a lot closer on the road, with Tulsa holding just an 8-6 advantage in New Orleans. The two teams have split the games evenly over the past 10 contents, but Tulane has won five of the past six meetings. The previous two games, both played in the Donald W. Reynolds Center, have gone to overtime. Tulsa won the first, and Tulane avenged the loss last season.
The Hurricane is looking to bounce back from a 78-68 setback against UAB earlier in the week. Dwon Odom and Keaston Willis led the Hurricane with 17 and 16 points, respectively. Odom added eight rebounds and seven assists in the loss. Isaiah Barnes grabbed a season-best 10 boards. The game also marked the return of Braeden Carrington from an injury suffered in the second half at UTSA. Tulsa still has not played a game at full strength, as forward Justin Amadi missed the contest with an illness.
Willis made another four 3-pointers on Sunday, giving him 65 for the season, which ranks second in the conference. He now has 365 makes from downtown in his career, which ranks 59th all-time in the NCAA and third among active players. Only Louisville's Reyne Smith (376) and Saint Louis' Gibson Jimerson (379) have made more. Willis also sits at 1,1911 career points, making him one of only 44 players to score at least 1,900 points and knock down 365 3-pointers.
Tulane has been a tough nut to crack at home this season, where the Green Wave is 9-3 this season. This includes a 3-1 home record in The American. Tulane's lone loss in The American play was in their last matchup with Memphis. The Green Wave held a lead with 11 minutes to play, but the Tigers pulled away to notch a rare win in Devlin Fieldhouse.
Kaleb Banks (17.4) and Rowan Brumbaugh (14.7) are the two Green Wave to average double figures in scoring. A redshirt sophomore, Brumbaugh has scored in double figures in 18 contests this season, including each of the past 17, and leads the team in conference play, posting 17.1 points per The American game. Apart from leading the team in scoring, Banks gets it done on the glass as well, grabbing a team-high 7.3 rebounds per game.
Following Sunday's contest, the Golden Hurricane will continue the road swing with a game against the nationally ranked Memphis Tigers on Wednesday night. Tipoff against the Tigers is set for 7 p.m. on ESPN+.
