Hot Shooting Second Half Leads Tulsa to 84-75 Win Over Austin Peay

TULSA, Okla. — Tulsa defeated Austin Peay 84-75 on Thursday night at the Donald W. Reynolds Center. The Golden Hurricane overcame a 14-point deficit in the second half, shooting 60 percent from the field in the final 20 minutes while hitting 8-of-14 (.571 percent) of their threes in the half.
 
Tylen Riley led the offense with 20 points, converting all eight of his free throw attempts and adding two steals. David Green contributed significantly with 17 points and collected eight rebounds, alongside two blocks. Ade Popoola supported the scoring effort by hitting four 3-pointers on his way to 14 points. Miles Barnstable added ten points and handed out four assists, while securing five rebounds.
 
The game opened with Tulsa taking an early lead after a tip-in by Riley at 19:25. Austin Peay responded with a three-pointer from Anton Brookshire, assisted by Zyree Collins, to take a 3-2 lead at 18:32. Both teams exchanged leads throughout the first half, with Tulsa's Green contributing with a blocked shot and subsequent layup to keep the home team competitive. However, Austin Peay managed a strong finish to the half, highlighted by a layup from Creighton Morisch with 58 seconds remaining, securing a 40-33 lead heading into the locker room.
 
Tulsa secured a strong second half, outscoring Austin Peay 51-35 to seal the victory. Green contributed significantly with a layup at 9:43 to tie the score at 59 and a three-point play to put them ahead. Popoola hit two consecutive 3-pointers in the final minutes, including one after picking up a loose ball at the end of the shot clock, stretching the Golden Hurricane's lead. Riley added crucial free throws with 40 seconds left, cementing the win. The Governors' Collins and Tate McCubbin led their efforts, but Tulsa's efficient shooting and defensive stops prevailed.
 
The Golden Hurricane head to California for the Acrisure Holiday Invitational in Palm Desert. They'll open the event on Tuesday against San Jose State.
