TULSA, Okla. –– The Golden Hurricane men's basketball team welcomes Tulane to the Donald W. Reynolds Center for the penultimate home game of the 2024-25 season on Saturday.
Tipoff is set for 1 p.m. (CT) and will air on ESPNU Jack Benjamin and Mark Adams on the call. Fans can also catch the contest on Big Country 99.5 FM and the Varsity Network app. Bruce Howard and JR Rollo will bring fans the action.
The Hurricane (11-17, 5-10 The American) is looking to get back on track after a difficult Texas road trip where Tulsa never led in losses against North Texas and Rice. Tulane (16-12, 10-5 The American) is coming off a win against Charlotte to stay two games behind North Texas and UAB, who are tied for second in The American.
This will be the 38th meeting in a series Tulsa leads 25-12, however Tulane has won six of the past 10 contests against TU, including the meeting on Feb. 2 in New Orleans, 59-56. Tulsa had a late chance to tie the game but was unable to convert. Tulsa is 15-at home in the series. However, Ron Hunter has two of those three wins in Tulsa. The last two games in the Reynolds Series between these two teams has gone ot overtime with each team winning one.
Graduate guard Keaston Willis enters Saturday's contest with 1,988 career points, 12 shy of the 2,000 mark. Only 18 active players have 2,000 or more parts and just 706 in NCAA history have achieved the feat. He and Minnesota forward Dawson Garcia are level on career points and play at the same time on Saturday. They will likely become the 19th and 20th active players to reach the benchmark.
Willis also entered Tulsa's top 10 for most 3-pointers in a single season after hitting three in the game at Rice. He has 79 on the season, one make from tying Shea Seals (1994-95) for eighth, and seven from tying Justin Hurtt (2010-11) to break into the top five.
Dwon Odom continues to lead the team in scoring, recording 13.4 points per game. His 5.2 assists per contest are also the tops on not only the team, but the entire American Athletic Conference. Odom has 145 this season, two shy of making an appearance in the top 10 single season assist list at TU.
Tulane has gone 4-2 since defeating the Golden Hurricane at the beginning of February. The Green Wave has four players average in double figures, led by Rowan Brumbaugh, who is scoring 15.9 per contest. Kaleb Banks is right behind him at 15.6 per game, while Asher Woods (10.2) and Greg Glenn III (10.0) are the other two. Banks is also the team's leading rebounder, pulling down 7.0 per contest. Brumbaugh is the team's leading scorer and also helps set up teammates better than anyone, dishing out 128 assist (4.6 per game).
Teams struggle to shoot well against the Green Wave, knocking down just 40.1 percent of their efforts this season, the best defensive percentage in the conference and 23rd nationally. Interior defense plays a big role in Tulane's success, and rim protection is a large part of that -- Tulane is first in the conference and 38th in the NCAA in blocks per game, averaging 4.6 rejections.
Following Saturday's game, the Golden Hurricane will host Temple on Tuesday for Senior Night and the final home game of the season. Tipoff against the Owls is set for 7 p.m. and will air on ESPN+.
